1. What documents do I need before travelling?
You must make sure that your passport is valid and will remain valid for a minimum of 6 months after your departure date. You must also apply for a tourist pass. Without these documents it will not be possible to stay in Cuba.

2. How much money will I need?
We suggest that you have a budget of about 25CUC per day. It is advisable to bring this money with you, though it is also possible to take money out of cash machines in Cuba.

3. What is the currency used in Cuba?
The currency used is the Cuban peso (CUP)(=100cents). For tourists there is also a convertible currency, the convertible peso (CUC) which has replaced US Dollars. Since 2004, US Dollars are no longer recognised as an exchangeable currency. To find out the current exchange rate click here.

4. Can I pay with a bank card in Cuba?
Cash machines are hard to come by in small towns. If you are going to be travelling, it is advisable to take cash with you. In general, credit cards are an acceptable form of payment, as long as they don´t come from American companies.

5. Security in Cuba?
In general, Cuba is a secure country with a low crime rate. However, you must remain vigilant, it is advisable to leave valuable belongings in your hotel and to never walk alone in the streets of Havana. Practical advice: Put your camera around your neck, carry your rucksack in front of you and keep jewellery out of site. If you take these precautions and remain vigilant, you will be able to make the most of your stay without encountering any problems.

6. The climate in Cuba?
With an average temperature of 25 degrees, Cuba is well known for its tropical climate. In autumn it can often be rainy and cyclones are quite common. November to April is the high season as it is dry, and during the low season, from May to October, temperatures remain hot but much more humid. For more information, click here.

7. What is the customs tarif?
On departure from Cuba, you will have to pay 25 CUC in cash at the airport.

9. How do electrical products work in Cuba?
For the older hotels in Cuba, the current is 110V. On the other hand, newer hotels are equipped with an alternating current of 220V. We advise you to buy an adaptor before your departure as it can be difficult to find one in Cuba.

10. Telephone calls in Cuba?
For outgoing calls, you must always put the prefix 119. For example, somebody in Cuba wanting to telephone the United Kingdom must first dial 119, then the 44 (code for the UK) followed by the number of the recipient without the 0. So 119 + 44 + number. Note that international calls in Cuba are very expensive. The dialling code for Cuba is 53.
