Everyone needs a passport, valid for at least 6 months ahead. Besides it is necessary to buy a tourist card (visa, valid for a maximum of 30 days), which needs to be shown to the immigration officers on arrival.   Electricity The most common electrical voltage in Cuba is 110 volts. However, some of the hotels operate on 220 volts. It is advisable to bring along a transformer, as they are not so easy to get in Cuba.

Visitors may bring along 2 bottles of alcohol, one block of cigars and their personal belongings. It is prohibited to import any weapons, except the licensed hunting weapons. The import of plant and animal products is prohibited. Live animals can be brought into Cuba only with necessary documents.

Means of Payment

The national currency is the Cuban peso
(=100 centavos), which comes in notes of 1, 3, 5, 10, 50 and 100 pesos, and coins of 1, 5, and 10 centavos, and 1 and 3 pesos.

Since the 8 th of November 2004, tourists can only pay with the "peso convertible" (CUC), which has the same value as the dollar. If you exchange US-Dollars in CUC an exchange tax of 10% applies.

In larger tourism areas such as Varadero, Jardines del Rey, St. Lucía, Playa Covarrubias and Playa Esmeralda, where Euros were already accepted before the introduction of the CUC as tourist currency, you can still pay with Euros.
