Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival
Arrival at the airport Lamezia Terme and transfer to the residence La Conchiglia. There dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2 The great emigration
We will spend this morning in the beautiful village of Francavilla Angitola before arriving near to Pizzo in in a typical Agriturismo. The food will catch you with its rustic taste and varied kinds of products. After lunch we will have a nice walk in the little streets of Pizzo, a medieval town on the coat, which is situated directly on a rock out of tuff. You will see the little castle which was for years used as a prison as well as the grottochurch next to the beach. As a final topping we will taste the famous Tartufo-Icecream, for which the city won a couple of awards. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 3 Past eras
In Gerace we get to see one of the most important and richest Norman towns. Here it seems like the time has stood still. We will visit the biggest church building of Calabria and take a walk through the small streets and past medieval houses which are still inhabited.
In the afternoon we will change the scene by visiting the coastal town Locri. On the way to there we will buy all things needed for a picnic. Afterwards there will also be enough time to go shopping. Dinner and overnight staying in the hotel.
Day 4 Red Onions ... Blue Sea
The day of breathtaking views! Capo Vaticano is a notable promontory on the Tyrrhenian coast. On a clear day you can see Sicily and its craggy cliff faces with wonderful, little picture-postcard rocky bays from ‘’Belvedere’’, the viewing point near the lighthouse. For lunch you will taste a lot of local specialties.
In the afertnoon you have enough time at the beach. Let your thoughts go and take a bath in the cristal blue water of the Tyrrhenian sea. In the early evening we will have a visit in the famous village of Tropea with its medieval narrow alleys, its little cathedral and fascinating charme. Various restaurants invite you for dinner (not inclusive) before you will see Tropea by night.
Day 5 A day to fall in love with!
In the morning the fishing village Scilla is awaiting us. This small romantic village is the most famous place on the Costa Viola with its historic Castello di Ruffo, its heavenly beach promenades and the small, romantic fishermen ‘s houses which hug the seafront. A must is here the visit of the famous fishrestaurant Gauco. In the afternoon we will go a little bit further to Pentedattilo. It is a very paintable, verdant place and a deserted ghost town at the same time. Behind the labyrinth of little alleyways, roofs and partly crumbling houses there is a dominating rock face with five teeth on it. The Pentedaktylos (Greek for five fingers) gave the byzantine place its name. A nice walk through the little streets will bring you up to the top of the five fingers. Dinner and over night stay in the hotel.
Day 6 Now it is your turn!!
Today we will travel to Vibo Valentia, the little provincial capital city with its old castle up on the mountain of the city. You will see the museum with excavations of the time of Ancient Greece and will walk long old churches and nobility palaces. Of course, there will time for shopping as well. Lunch in the hotel.
In the afternoon it is your turm! With an experienced local chef we will prepare a whole lunch menu consisting of delicious Calabrian specialties and we will learn how to make the wonderful liqueur “limoncello”. This way when you are back at home you can relive your holiday experience. We will have dinner all together.
Day 7 Free day
Today you can do everything you like since it is your own responsibility. You can either go to the beach or drive to Tropea for getting some typical souvenirs. Or you just do a tour with a catamaran or a bike tour. However you like to have it. Dinner and overnight stay in the Residence.
Day 8 Arrivederci bella Calabria!
After a last Italian breakfast, transfer to the airport Lamezia Terme.
