Calabria for Explorers - Rental Car Tour
Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival
After your arrival at the Lamezia Terme airport , the car of your choice will be handed over. You will then drive to the Ionian side of Calabria. Dinner and overnight stay in 3 star hotel in Catanzaro Lido.
Day 2 Calabrian Craft in the Mountains
After breakfast, you will go with the car to Gionvanni in Fiore. An absolute must see is the famous Abbey Florense (a monastery founded in 1189 by Gioacchino da Fiore), which this charming town has developed after. In addition you will visit S. Giovanni in Fiore, famous for its gold and carpet weavers.
Next, is in the "Museo demologico dell'economia, del lavoro e della storia sociale Silana" (Museum demologico of economy, labor and social history Silana). Then you can take a stroll leisurely through the shops. Treat yourself to a special delicacy: migliata pitta - pitta bread filled with dry fruits. Then leave for S. Severina. Here high above the city of the Norman castle, it lies with its museum. Dinner and overnight stay at a 4 star hotel in Catanzaro Lido.
Day 3 Between the Ionian Sea and the Byzantine Jewel
You will discover Soverato today - a beautiful coastal town to stroll in and go shopping for souvenirs. Soverato is the seaside resort on the Ionian coast of Calabria.
Then you will find an absolute highlight in Stilo: the church "La Cattolica" which is a unique jewel of Byzantine art. But Stilo has even more to offer! The monument of the famous philosopher Tommaso Campanella, the Cathedral, and many artworks from the 17th and 18th century. Take a stroll through the old and narrow streets and explore this very special small town. Dinner and overnight stay in 3 star hotel in Catanzaro Lido.
Day 4 Metropole Cultural Calabria - Cosenza
Today, Cosenza is on the program. This city is the vibrant, cultural heart of Calabria- in the past, as well as in the present. Emperor Frederick II has left clear traces here. Cosenza is crossed by two rivers and is located between seven surrounding hills. The shopping street of Corso Mazzini and the old town with its many shops and cafes invite you to explore them. Also, visit attractions such as the Municipal Theater, the city museum, the library and the well-preserved aristocratic palaces of Cosenzas. In the evening we will continue to Camigliatello. Here you will have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 5 The Sila Wolf
After breakfast, saunter through the beautiful mountain village of Camigliatello, know especially for winter sports and is an ideal starting point for excursions into the National Park of Sila throughout the whole year. Camigliatella is characterized by picturesque wooden houses. Not far from Camigliatello, at 1230m altitude, is Lake Cecita, the largest artificially created reservoir of Sila. In the forestry station, there is an exhibition featuring Italian Wolf from the Sila Mountains. From here, please sign-review boards for the enchanting flora and fauna in Calabria. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Camigliatello.
Day 6 In the Tyrrhenian coast
Today after breakfast leave for Paola, on the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria. The pilgrimage church of San Francesco di Paola is a popular starting point for veneration of the most popular saint Francis who was born in Calabria.
Then go with your rental car to Amantea - the lively medieval town full of excitement. There are a number of interesting churches, but is town is particularly suitable for an extensive city tour. The tour is full of ruins and the Saracen castle high above the city. Then you can be on your way to Capo Vaticano, and to make a stop in S. Domenica di Ricadi in the town of Pizzo. The Tartufo ice cream there is one of the many ice cream parlors that is an absolute must try! In S. Domenica di Ricadi, you will have dinner and overnight stay in 3 star hotel.
Day 7 Leisure,Bathing, Tropea ...
The last day of this eventful week, is at your leisure. Plan your day according to your taste. The picturesque town of Tropea near your hotel is not only great for shopping for souvenirs, but with its small streets, sidewalk cafes and the beach below the rocky cliffs, it's all worth a visit and it also offers to conclude your trip with lots of photographs. Dinner and overnight in 3 star hotel.
Day 8 Drive to the Airport and Return the Rental Car
One last Italian breakfast before you go home. At the airport of Lamezia Terme, return your rental car.
