Mexico, with a population of about 108 millions (2005), is the greatest Spanish speaking nation of the world. It consists mostly of Mestizos, Indigenas and Creoles.
Culture
Mexican culture is characterized by the Indio-cultures, Spanish, European and North American elements. The capital of Mexico is one of the most significant cultural centers of Latin America that offers its visitors a wide diversity of cultural activities at a global level. At the same time, many cultural highlights can be found in small provincial towns. Quite a number of sites, mostly pre-Columbian but also colonial Spanish buildings - were declared to be world cultural heritage by UNESCO.
Religion
Most Mexicans
(about 87%) are Roman Catholics. There is a strict division between the state and the Church since 1873.
