Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Cancún
Transfer to Playa del Carmen and stay overnight in the Playa del Carmen Hotel by H-n-A.
Day 2: Cobá (5 hours hike)
In the morning, you’ll drive from Playa del Carmen to Cobá. In Cobá, you’ll visit the Maya sites situated in the nature protection area by walking along hidden paths through the jungle. Afterwards, take a refreshing bath in a “Cenote“. Before lunch, a surprise -that will be the highlight of the day- awaits you close to the lagoon of Cobá . During a canopy tour (“treetop tour via zip lining“) you will “overfly“ the historical sites, enjoying them from this very special perspective of a bird’s eye view. Overnight stay at the Hotel Villas Arqueológicas Cobá.
Day 3: Jungle hike (4 hours)
After breakfast you will start over with a hike through the jungle, where you will be looking for spider and howler monkeys. A beautiful lagoon is the starting point for an exciting canoe tour. After lunch you will have time to spend the afternoon in a beautiful natural environment, swimming or relaxing. At noon departure to Valladolid. Overnight stay at the Hotel Maria de la Luz.
Day 4: Ek Balam (4 hours walk)
First, you will drive to the ruins of Ek Balam and climb up the highest Pyramid in Yucatán. Afterwards you will wander on hidden tracks through the jungle. Lunch will be served in a Maya village. Continue to Rio Lagartos. Overnight stay at the Hotel Villa de Pesquatores.
Day 5: Río Lagartos (2.5 hours walk)
The biosphere reserve, Río Lagartos, - around the small fishing village of Río Lagartos - embraces the north coast line of the Yucatán Peninsula and is further known for its plentiful bird life. Enjoy a boat trip through the mangroves along fascinating flamingo colonies and watch the exceptional richness of species. After lunch you will hike through salty rivers in order to observe pink flamingos. If wanted, an optional “crocodile night trip“ is offered at night (optional, not inclusive). Overnight stay at the Hotel Villa de Pesquatores.
Day 6: Dzilam de Bravo (3 hours walk)
Today you will discover Yucatán’s unique flora and fauna in the nature reserve of Dzilam. Your guide will show you the different bird species during a hike through the jungle. On a side trip through the green mangroves, there might be one or more crocodiles waiting for you! Overnight stay in tents in Dzilam de Bravo.
Day 7: Izamal - Playa del Carmen
At the end of the program a visit to Izamal- possibly the oldest city in Yucatán- is planned. Immerse yourself in "La Ciudad Amarilla - the Yellow City" and experience the contrast between pre-Hispanic and colonial architecture. You can explore the city in a horse-drawn carriage, passing the Convento de San Antonio de Padua, a monumental monastery in the center. In the afternoon, you’ll return to Playa del Carmen. Overnight stay at the Playa del Carmen Hotel by H-n-A.
Day 8: Departure
Airport transfer or possibility to continue your trip individually.
